HISTORIC GREEN: the Mission and Vision
Mission To assist in and lead in the transformation and restoration of distressed communities through education and service activities focusing on heritage conservation and sustainable design
Vision All people have the resources to restore their communities to be vibrant, healthy, livable, and well-designed places with a bright future and a celebrated past!
Values
We value development with minimal environmental impact.
We operate on the invitation of a community only and require their support. We rely on the community to define what is integral to their heritage and identity and needs to be preserved and restored.
Historic Green understands “distressed” communities as those who have faced disaster or decline from natural and/or human causes.
We seek partnerships within the communities in which we work that help to increase our effectiveness and allow us to focus on our core competencies.
Our motivations to invoke change include cultural degradation, climate change, habitat loss, and loss of a community’s social fabric. Remaining true to our roots, we focus on the built environment and the natural spaces surrounding it, nevertheless, we hope that our energy and enthusiasm will influence more than just the physical environment.
We value a person’s—and a community’s—right to enjoy their natural surroundings and celebrate their local heritage. We discourage activities that do not foster sustainable living, equitable economic development and conservation of a community’s cultural uniqueness.
