Green Light New OrleansGreen Light New Orleans (GLNO) is working to reverse global warming by helping New Orleans low- and middle-income families and individuals make the switch from incandescent bulbs to energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFL), one house at a time. Global Green USASoon after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, Global Green USA was on the ground in New Orleans, unveiling an aggressive plan to rebuild the city green. Since then, the organization opened its New Orleans office and the Green Building Resource and Design Center, launched the Green Schools Initiative, and broke ground on “The Holy Cross Project”, a sustainable low-income housing community in the Lower Ninth Ward. Louisiana Bucket BrigadeThe Louisiana Bucket Brigade (LBB) is a 501(c)(3) environmental health and justice organization working with communities that neighbor the state's oil refineries and chemical plants. LBB assists local residents in their fight to reduce pollution and protect public health. LBB also works with community groups to help them take air samples and achieve their goals, be it relocation away from a polluting facility, reduced pollution, or a moratorium on facility expansions. MercyCorpsFounded in 1979, Mercy Corps has assisted people worldwide with emergency relief services, sustainable economic development and civil society initiatives. Since Hurricane Katrina, its Neighborhood Revitalization Program has formed strategic partnerships with five New Orleans Neighborhood Associations. Preservation Trades NetworkThe Preservation Trades Network (PTN) is a 501(c)3 non-profit membership organization founded to provide education, networking and outreach for the traditional building trades. PTN was established on the principle that conservation of the built environment is fundamentally dependent on the work of skilled people in all of the traditional building trades who preserve, maintain and restore historic buildings, and build architectural heritage for the future. Sierra Club Gulf CoastWhen Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, the Sierra Club had an extensive network of volunteers and staff already living in the area. Many of them faced tremendous personal loss, and yet they immediately began helping people to recover and to rebuild safe and healthy communities. In two years' time the Sierra Club has exposed and forced a resolution to the problem of formaldehyde in emergency housing; worked in community partnerships to ensure that hurricane debris is not dumped on low-income communities and people of color; and assisted residents in rebuilding their homes using green building practices. Trace Collaborative, LLCTrace Collaborative, LLC is a newly-formed partnership focusing on sustainability within the design and construction industry. Though we do offer green building consulting services, we focus on helping those in the industry organize and implement sustainability within their offices – as they are paying less attention to that aspect than the final green building product.
